DAYTONA TEST CONFIRMS ELLISON AND CORONA EXTRA HONDA CBR1000RR SUPERBIKE ON THE GAS

Corona Extra Honda Racing took its Honda CBR1000RR SuperBike to the Dunlop tire test at Daytona International Speedway this week, giving SuperBike pilot James Ellison his first ever look at the famous high banks of the speedway. After surprising everyone with how quickly he came up to speed James said, “I have heard so much about this track and how scary it is. In fact it’s great once you are on it - it looks loads worse down in the paddock!”

James was quickly in amongst the Daytona regulars on the first day. Through the three day test he improved almost every outing, eventually turning in a best time of 1:41.2 on 2006 race tires. He had a minor “off” on Tuesday but both James and bike were undamaged. James said, “We just came to get to know the track so did not experiment with test tires which I’m told are worth at least a second a lap. I’m really happy with the bike. It’s fast on the banking, I could hang with all the bikes out there. Once we get the new electronics package on and latest rubber we’ll be able to mix it up with the locals!”

James was joined by 2006 Corona rider Gary Mason, also on his first visit to Daytona. Gary spent the three days getting to know the track on a stock-motor CBR1000RR. Grinning from ear to ear almost all the time, Gary loved the track, putting in a best lap of 1 44.007. He said, “The track is mega! I love it and can’t wait to get to race!”
